Soccer Banquet

We are having the soccer banquet on Tues Nov 15th at 6pm in the Christ Church of Oronogo Youth Center. Dinner will be 5$ per person. Kids 4-under free. We will send an RSVP form home. Please send it back with a check for the buffet dinner.

Awards will be presented along with a slide show of some of the games. Also, Dave Schultz will have photos that he has taken from the games available to purchase for a small fee.

Again, please return the RSVP with check by Friday 11th so we can have enough food. Thanks and see you there.

Uniform Turn-In and End of Season Activity

We were going to turn in uniforms in on Monday, however the students only have half day and so I think it would be better to turn in uniforms and vote on awards on Tuesday. Please have the uniforms and warm up washed and folded to be returned and checked back in on Tuesday Nov 1st.

Thanks for another great season of Webb City Soccer. I believe we improved in a lot of areas and reached some of our goals while others are still left for next season. We want to celebrate all that we have done and work so hard for. Please join us for a celebration dinner and awards banquet on Nov 15th. More information will be posted soon. Cardinals Shutout Riverton

Thursday night the Cardinals traveled to Riverton for a Varsity only match. The game was played at 4:30pm. It was a slow start but the Cardinals put the first in at about the 28th minute as Alex Christian blasted up the right side beating his defender and scoring the goal.

The defense was relentless holding Riverton to just a few shots. Lead by Matt Reynolds and Jaime Solis.

The final goal came in the middle of the second half as Aaron Tappana took a corner and Lucas Dalton crashes in and nailed in home.

The Cards move to 4-9-0 on the season and play tonight in Joplin at the sports complex. Good luck.

The Willard Fall Classic is set to begin this Thursday. We do not play until Friday. We will get a chance at some redemption playing Logan Rogersville again, who beat us 2-1 at home. The admission is 3$ for adults and 2$ for students. If the games are on the East Pitch plan on bringing a chair since there are no bleachers.

JV Carthage Tournament

Friday Night Game~
We played neosho tonight. Tough game. Neosho went up early in the first half scoring 3 goals. But the cards battled back with the free kick shot by Nick Cook who scored from about 25 yds out. Freshman Grant Schultz made some good runs up top while Freshman Schylar Utley and Sophomore Ezra Perez worked the back line. River Orns was able to keep all shots out of the goal in the second half.

Saturday the JV Cards look to take on the loser of the Cassville Joplin game at 1:15 pm. Be at the school for the bus at 12pm bus leaves at 12:15pm.

Tonight we have a home game vs Logan Rogersville. A program that we have played well against. They always bring a good game. We are seeking our first win of the season. Come out and bring all the holigan you have in you. We can use all the support. We have been training hard and hope to bring a more dominant attack tonight as we seek our first win.

We will emphasize a discipline defense lead tonight by Junior Matt Reynolds and Senior Jaime Solis. Bring your energy as you come root for your Cardinals tonight. JV starts at 5pm and Varsity will start after.

Lawn Chair Game Review

2011 Webb City High School Soccer Team

What a great night for some soccer. The evening started out swell with dozens of fans coming out to the match tonight. The evening had a sweet sense of excitement in the air as the season opener is just around the corner. The warm up music was blaring as the players stepped out on the turf in their red and white kits.

Red turned up the heat quickly on the White team lead by senior striker Alex Christian and and central midfielder Junior Matt Reynolds. The play was a bit rushed as the Red pounded it on White, but the White team lead by Sophomore central defensiveness Seth Rogers and midfielder Nick Cook didn't just give in. The play continued back and forth with some dazzling goals scored from the Red team.

The day turned to night as the teams continued to fight for possession until the end. Near the end of the match the White team made a quick counter attach which caught Red off guard. Freshman Grant Shultz and newcomer Javier Acosta played some combination play but were shut down by substitute Jaime Solis and Jimmy Campbell. The Red played a clean sheet thanks to Blake Ward and Kyle Reynolds, on the other side White goal keepers played hard as River Orns, Aren Wells, and Austin Watson each made some great saves.

In the end it was a nice night for some soccer. If you had to miss it we hope you will join us next Tuesday for our opening match against College Heights, JV starts at 5pm and Varsity will start after.

Lawn Chair Game

Trainings Begins Aug8th -Aug 12th

Training starts tomorrow for all players. Two mandatory session will be held Aug 8th -12th. Starting at 6am and 8:30am respectively. Please have cleats, running shoes, shin guards and water.

We will also have a voluntary conditioning run at 8pm meeting at the cannon in front of the praying hands. Located HERE. Don't forget water.

High School Soccer Camp this Week

Looks like it about time. Tomorrow starts our summer camp from 7am to 9am Mon-Thur. With a concluding family BBQ on Thursday evening at 6pm. We plan on inviting some Alumni players to come and join us for a match and fun. Dont forget your forms and fees for the camp.

There should be a flyer with information about the BBQ sent home with your player. Also another reminder we are planning on a trip up to watch Sporting KC take on Real Salt Lake as a unity activity. We will need parents to help drive, they too would need to purchase a ticket if they want to watch. Tickets will be 15$. I will be holding the tickets on Friday, so we would need the money by Thursday. Please check your schedules and let us know.

The players will be trained by COACHES WITH NCAA COLLEGIATE SOCCER playing EXPERIENCE AND HIGH SCHOOL COACHING EXPERIENCE with many college coaching contacts for recruiting in the players future.

The Webb City High School soccer team will be playing for more than just a win when they face off against the Branson Pirates on Tuesday, October 12th. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Cardinals and Pirates will be sporting pink. There will be a signed game ball raffled off during halftime with proceeds to go to find a cure. So show up in your pink and support a great cause!

Joplin Tournament Schedule

Willard Tournament

The Willard Tournament is coming up and it is once again time to start preparing for it.

This time I will be fixing breakfast burritos for the players to eat on the way to the game. Here is a list of items that will be needed for the players/coaches/managers to eat for lunch.

Peanut Butter/Jelly sandwiches- as many as one loaf of bread will make
Ham/cheese sandwiches- as many as one loaf of bread will make
Turkey/cheese sandwiches- as many as one loaf of bread will make
chips- 2 large bags of individual chips
bananas
apple slices- you can buy them now prepakaged or slice them and put them in 7-up
orange slices
cookies
fruit snacks
gatorade/powerade
water
Mayo and mustard- squeeze bottles

Parents if it is hot there are some shade trees where we can feed the boys so bring blankets for them to sit on. There is a pavilion but it is sometimes already full so we can not count on using it.

I was brought to my attention that I failed to include directions to Logan-Rogersville in the parent's information packet at the beginning of the season. Here are those directions:

Logan-Rogersville- I-44 to Exit 69 (James River Freeway). Continue east on US-60. From Springfield take Hwy 60 east to the 1st stop light (Hwy 125) take a left there and then a right between the HS and MS (FR 174) Turn in right before the softball field, they are right by the softball field.

Labor Day Practice

We will hold practice on Labor Day (Monday) in preparation for Tuesday's match. The practice is not mandatory, but we expect that everyone in town that morning will be in attendance. The practice will be held at 8:00 am for the convenience of those who may have weekend activities going on.

Also, team T-shirts have been ordered. The cost will be $9 per player and $12 for friends and family. This years design was picked by the seniors. Please send money and sizes with your player in the coming week.

Week 1 Report

The Webb City soccer team finishes the first week 1-1 with a secure win over College Heights and a difficult 6-0 loss to rival Carthage.

Goals from Jace Cooke (2) and Kyle Handley put us over the top in what was an exciting season opener against the Cougars of College Heights on Tuesday. JV had impressive showing in their debut match as well. Nice looking goals from Aaron Tappana (2) and Luke Dalton propelled the JV to a 3-0 victory.

On Thursday, the home opening match got off to a slow start. As expected, Carthage came out quick did very well possessing the ball. Shortly after the first half, lightning caused a 30 minute delay which seemed to invigorate and wake up the Cardinal squad. We came out the second half fighting. Despite some nice attacks, we could not effectively possess the ball had a difficult time penetrating a very good defense. The Cards fought through the whole game however despite the disappointing loss.

Next week, we face Willard, Carl Junction, and then the weekend tournament at Nixa.

Nixa Tournament

The Nixa Tournament is sneaking up on us so we/parents need to start preparing for it. We usually do not need to provide anything Friday night. However, it is a good idea to send a snack and drink for your player so have for the bus ride so they can keep up their energy and not get dehydrated.
Saturday we will provide breakfast and lunch, and drinks.
Now, my best suggestion for this tournament is to put the sandwiches, chips, cookies, and fruit in individual bags. The past two years it seems the players have had to eat on the bus while traveling from one field to the other and have not had time to fix their own sandwiches. We will need to provide enough food for approx. 25 people. This will feed the players, managers, and coaches.

Here is a list is things needed for Saturday.

Saturday morning I will have biscuit sandwiches and we will send some of the fruit and drinks to eat on the bus to the game. If you will drop off the items Saturday morning when you bring your player I will collect everything so it will be altogether. As soon as the first game is over we need to be at the bus with the food set up so the team can make their selections and quickly load back up on the bus if needed.
I know this list seems a little lengthy but if each player/parent provides one things it will not be a big burden on anyone. We will begin practice officially on August 9th at 6 a.m. Two-a-days will take place all that week with the first session being from 6 to 8 and the second from 9 to 11 a.m. Prior to the beginning of practice, players should make sure the following have been taken care of:

1. Have an updated physical turned into coach or on file in the high school office.

2. Bring cleats and running shoes to practice.

3. Bring your NOCSAE approved shinguards.

The Webb City Soccer end of season awards banquet will be held Monday, Nov. 16 at 6:00 at the Mining Days Community Building (behind the Praying Hands). The whole event will be catered by Bamboo Chinese Restaurant and the cost is $5 per person. Cardinals Soccer Season Brought to an End

The Cardinals took the field with confidence and determination on Monday as they faced off with the top-seeded Bolivar Liberators. The district semifinal was a match that none of these players had seen in their careers. The pre game tension was palpable.

Our players came with game faces (and hairdos) that showed their determination to make a fight of it. And fight they did. Bolivar scored early to take a 1-0 lead, but the first 20 minutes of the game, Webb City would possess the ball on their attacking half for the majority. We got their attention with a couple of effective attacks but were unable to finish. The Liberators would score two more before the end of the half.

The second half saw a Cardinals squad that would not give up. Our attacks became more frequent, but possession was not as prominent. What looked like good thru-passes were constantly broken up by a stellar Bolivar defense led by Senior "Toad" Slagle. Despite our best efforts, we could not penetrate. The Liberators landed one more goal early in the second half, but several incredible saves by keeper Thomas Foster would keep it from being a total rout. The final score was 4-0 Liberators.

The game was hard fought and the Cardinals left the field with heads held high. They had persevered through a very tough season and finished together. Only one team gets to finish their season with a win. Some just get to play a little longer than others. But taking into account the difficulties that this team has seen, a 12-12 season is a victory. And while the seniors will be dearly missed as they move on to the next stage of their lives, the 9 remaining starters as well as 8 other young players with varsity experience look forward to next season.

The Liberators will play the #6 Marshfield Blue Jays Thursday afternoon for the championship, and we wish luck to both teams as they advance.

Cards Eliminate Bulldogs - Move on to District Semifinal

The Cards opened up their postseason play yesterday with a win, something that they have not done since 2006. The first half of play was one of the best we've played all season as we put up 3 goals on our rivals, the Carl Junction Bulldogs. The first goal was put in when Austin Sanders sent a long shot just wide and Jeremy Heuertz one touched it into the goal just before it went out of bounds. The next would come from a break away by Alex Christian, and the final goal of the half came when Austin Sanders took a free kick from midfield and it rolled through a crowd of defenders and found the corner of the net.

The second half saw a frustrated and determined Carl Junction squad fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Cards held off a flurry of shots allowing just one goal off a header from CJ senior Brandon Kennedy. Thomas Foster had 14 saves and the defense did an excellent job of holding off the attacks.

We play next on Monday afternoon at 4:30 against the top-seeded Bolivar Liberators, who squeaked past #8 West Plains Saturday afternoon in PKs.

Directions to Marshfield

Travel east on I-44 to exit 100. You will follow Spur Drive (MO-38) into Marshfield. You’ll follow the curve left and go into downtown. When you get to Crittenden St., take a right. (There is a hardware store on the corner). You’ll go a block or so before the road comes to a T. Take a left on Commercial St. It gets a little tricky from here.

A short distance up Commercial St. you will take a left onto Walnut St., then an immediate right on to Madison St., then an immediate left onto Elm St. You’ll come to a stop sign that is MO-DD. Follow the curve to the right and you’ll see the high school. The soccer field is behind the school. You’ll pull in to the main entrance and go around the left side of the school and park in the parking lot there.

I've been getting a lot of emails about the district tournament, so I'll let you know everything that I know. This is how the district seeding shook out:

Districts will be held in Marshfield, MO (off exit 100 on I-44). Specific directions to the field will be sent home as well as posted here. Our first match will be against Carl Junction at 1:00 Saturday at Marshfield.(Bus time 9:30) Starting that day, it's win or go home. We'll play again Monday, and the District Championship match will be on Thursday.

Reminder of Game at Joplin

You will be in Riverton. Go through the light and continue west about a half-mile. You will see a blue and gold storage building, turn left just before this building. If you get to the roundabout, you went too far - use it to make a turn around. You will see the soccer field.

You will probably want to bring your own chairs.

I know this will cause some conflict with other activities such as band. Since we are only playing one varsity match, we encourage band kids to go with the band. We will play with what's left. If there are any other reasons that a player cannot play on Saturday (weddings, family reunions, etc...) please make us aware of that before that time. The bus will leave the high school at 11:30 am. The game will begin at 1:00.

Heartbreaker at Branson

A game that was hard-fought by both sides ended sourly Monday night as the Branson Pirates defeated the Webb City Cardinals 3-2 in overtime. The Cards were ahead 1-0 at the half off a goal by Cody Hawks in the 2oth minute. Hawks, in his first game back from multiple injuries, adjusted well to playing wing midfielder and had some great runs down the line. Persistence paid off as Kyle Handley sent a through ball to Hawks, who beat two defenders and took the shot from 15 yards and put it right past the keeper.

Handley would be involved on the next goal 10 minutes into the second half as well. Kyle took a corner kick that was headed by Alex Christian to the waiting foot of Jeremy Heuertz.

Branson made a strong comeback and were able to tie it up on a penalty kick with 20 minutes to go. The Webb defense fought off some tough attacks and made a few of their own, but they failed to materialize and the game was sent into overtime.

In overtime, Branson was awarded a free kick from just outside the penalty box that ricocheted off the near post and hit the far side of the net.

The Cards continue to play hard despite the players that are still missing. It's exciting to see young players stepping up into new roles and having success. When we get it all put together for districts, we will be tough to beat. Great game fellas.

Joplin Tournament Schedule Change

We have a different schedule and location for the Joplin Tournament. The games will be held at Junge Stadium at 800 Junge Blvd. We play both preliminary matches on Friday evening. We play Joplin at 3:30 and College Hieights at 7:30. The bus will leave the school at 2:15. The Championship match will be played at 5:00 on Saturday. Sorry for the late notice on all of this. I guess the weather is wreaking havoc all over.

Cards Take 4th at Willard

After a long night Friday night that seemed like it would never end, the Cards edged out the much-improved Logan-Rogersville Wildcats in PKs to get the victory. Austin Doran got the only goal for the Cards during regulation and Alex Christian finished them off with the game-winning PK. This set us up nicely for the challenge that laid ahead on Saturday.

With five players gone and one injured. The Cards pressed forward to compete with just 13 players knowing that they would have two games to play that day. Our young JV players stepped up and made Willard earn a win. They gave us a pretty good whooping, but for many of those young players, it was their first experience in a varsity match. So, after the butterflies were gone and we had to turn right around and play Monett, we stepped it up a little. Having beaten Monett earlier in the week with a short squad, we were confident that we could win. Our confidence did not supercede their readiness for vengeance as they came out fighting. Once again, Austin Doran and Alex Christian came through for goals in that match, and Austin Sanders did one heck of a job filling in for Thomas Foster in goal. We took a 5-2 loss, but it was a moral victory because we got to see a little fight out of the JV squad that we hadn't seen yet.

We have a great future ahead of us in the next couple of years. For now, we focus on Tuesday's match at Neosho. We will play one half of JV at 5:00 with varsity to follow. We know they'll want to redeem themselves for the close loss at the Christian County Tournament, so let's be ready!

Just want to say a great big thanks to all the parents for stepping up and feeding the team, we actually had more then enough food, but that's ok. We will be sending some of the left-overs with the team to snack on the bus to Neosho and then send drinks to the Joplin tournament and then send the rest with the team on the bus ride to Branson to snack on.
We have been very blessed this year with great kids, great parents and a great coaching staff. Thanks again to everyone.
Now it is time to start thinking about the banquet that will take place after the season is over. We can do tradition catering but after visiting with a few parents I think we should have food that the team wants so be asking your players what their favorite food might be and comment it to this blog and we'll see what the unanimous decision is. For example, Austin Sanders would like Up In Flames specialty pizzas. I think we should keep catering within the Webb City area to support our own economy. So put in your votes!!!

Cards Shut Out Aurora - Improve to 8-4

The Cardinals welcomed the youth players from Webb City Soccer Club in a big way tonight.

Webb City came out playing great possession and dominated from start to finish. Scoring was opened in the 14th minute when Austin Doran landed a penalty kick. Doran would score again 13 minutes later on a 35 yard blast. Alex Christian had a good night as well scoring on a breakaway in the 38th minute and having an assist in the second half on Jace Cooke's goal. Cooke picked up a rebound of Christian's shot and finished it off. Freshman Aaron Tappana got his first varsity goal to end the night.

In JV action, the Cardinals won a decisive 4-0 victory over the Houn' Dawgs.

Cards Top Cubs in Overtime

An exciting night as the Cards took the field against the Monett Cubs. We went in short-handed as usual but were able to put together an effective game to win 3-2 in the first overtime. The uneasiness of playing without four starters went away before the match even started. The team seemed confident during warm-up and when that beginning whistle blew, they were ready to play.

The Cubs got on the board first with a free kick that snuck in on the near post. But possession in the first half belonged to Webb City, who had a few missed opportunities to find the net. The defense was shutting down the quick Monett attack. Experience from last year told them what to look for.

To start the second half, Webb came out looking for goals and got the first one on a breakaway by sophomore Alex Christian who’s speed was greater than that of the Monett backfield and he found himself one on one with the keeper, putting Webb City on the board.

Monett scored again on a very nice cross to find their man at the back post to regain the lead. Minutes later, Senior Austin Doran answered back with his first goal of the season to tie it up once more with four minutes remaining.

Webb City went in to overtime with a plan of attack that would prove the perfect solution. A through ball was sent forward to freshman Matt Reynolds who placed the ball just past the reach of the keeper to get the golden goal and win the game. This was the first varsity goal for Reynolds and what a goal to have!

Pictures Cancelled-schedule change for Tuesday

We have cancelled team pictures for this Wednesday because of recent disciplinary issues that need to be addressed before we take time out of practice for a team photo.

We will also be playing Varsity only on Tuesday at Monett. All of the players eligible to play will dress out for the match. It is most likely that all players will be playing in the match. Thursday's game is still undecided as far as whether we will have a JV match or not. I will keep everyone posted. The Willard tournament will still go as scheduled, however, we will likely be taking ALL players to this tournament as well. If there are any concerns, please feel free to email them to me.

Parent's Meeting Wednesday Sept.30th

We will be having a parent's meeting to address some recent events and clearing up the rumors so that everyone is clear on what has happened. The meeting will also be informational with regard to the subject. We are requesting that ALL parents, or at least one for each player attend. I know this is a church/youth night for many families, so we will have it at 5:30 and try to make it short. If your situation will not allow you to attend, please contact me before the meeting. The players will have a meeting of their own tomorrow (Monday) before practice. Tough Night at NIxa--Injuries Continue to Plague

Well, what can we say, it's hard to gauge ourselves against a quality team such as we saw last night when we can't have our whole squad healthy and ready to play. Nixa gave us a good wake-up call last night in their 6-0 victory. Probably the most valuable lesson we can take from this match is that every single player on the field needs to be ready to fill in at any position. Every player has to give it all in preparation because whether you are a JV or Varsity player, starter or reserve, offense or defense, you are likely going to be called on at some point when the game is on the line.

After 10 games (varsity) this season, we can reflect on some things that we've done well and some things that we need to improve on to prepare for districts. I want to focus on the positive however. In ten games, we have yet to play a single minute of any match with all 11 starters on the field. Whether it's injuries, disciplinary issues, or yellow card accumulation, we have always been down at least one and usually 2 starters. Despite this we have been successful in winning up to this point. Our young players have stepped up either as substitutes or starters, and sometimes into positions they've never played and held their ground. The experience they have gained we be vital in preparation for districts as well as seasons to follow.

To put the current season into a little perspective, we have essentially the same core personnel as last season. At this point in 2008, having faced basically the same opponents, the Webb City Soccer team had a record of 2-8. Through the whole grueling season, we maintained hope that each loss was a learning experience--to make us better for the future. Some attitudes on the team began to turn to defeat around this point in the season, these attitudes continued to poison the team until nearly all hope was lost.

Out of the ashes of the 2008 season arose a new team! Destructive attitudes were done away with. The lessons learned had seasoned our young players into experienced veterans that because of their experience of defeat, could better appreciate victory. A new DESIRE for redemption has captivated this team and led us to prosper against all expectations.

This change was not a result of a change in coaching or a change in support from the community. This change came as a result of a squad that decided that if they wanted something bad enough, they were going to have to work for it.

As we enter the second half of this season, we must not become complacent. Nothing has changed! If we want success, we will have to work for it. If we rest now on our laurels and accept that we will be "good enough," then we may as well throw in the towel.

Let us then rededicate ourselves to the commitment we all made to constantly improve. We owe this to ourselves, each other, and every person that has and will support this team. We move forward with this season with confidence that our efforts have not and will not be in vain.

As I know that our opponents will be viewing this site seeing the words written here, I challenge them on behalf of this team to bring their best game. We'll be ready!

Willard Tournament Schedule

The Varsity Soccer squad will be traveling to Willard October 2 & 3 for Willard Soccer Fall Classic Tournament. Our first match will be Friday night at 7:00 pm vs Cassville. On Saturday, we will play at 10:00 and probably again at noon or 2:oo (depending on results). Bus times will be 4:30 pm on Friday and 8am on Saturday. Players should bring both red and white uniforms to the tournament.

We are going to have team pictures done this year by Billy Conroy (Casual Images). This is based on the recommendation of several parents and the outstanding action photos he took during the Christian County Tournament. Billy will be at practice on Sept. 30th to take team and individual photos. Check with your players over the next couple of days to see that they have their package information. The packages are very reasonably priced and include favorites such as trading cards, key chains, coffee mugs, etc...

On the 30th, please send money with your player along with the packet indicating which package you want. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

Willard tournament

To all parents of players that will be going to the Willard tournament October 2-3. The players will again be eating lunch at the tournament on Saturday and we will need to provide energy food for them. The Sanders and Fosters will again provide the sandwiches. Other items needed will be fruit, granola bars, cookies, snack cakes, chips, water, gatorade. Please answer to this blog or email Tonya Sanders thesanders@mchsi.com with what item(s) you will be providing for the tournament. Just a fyi, last tournament we had just enough of food but not enough water or gatorade, so if you didn't send anything last tournament, please help out this time.

Cards Take Two from Titans

The Cardinals dominated their interstate opponent tonight winning 8-0. The varsity squad played without two starters due to injury and yellow card accumulation, but managed to accomplish a solid victory nonetheless. Goals were scored by Jaime Tomay (2), PJ Armstrong (2), Eduardo Rojas, Kyle Handley, Alex Christian, and Ryan Busick. Assists went to Tomay (2), Handley, and Matthew Reynolds.

The JV won 3-1. The first goal came off a header by Andrew Kolb off a nice cross into the box by Aaron Tappana. The second was from a turn around 30 yard shot from Jeremy Heuertz, and the third was scored when Tappana picked up a deflection. For freshmen Tappana and Kolb, these were their first goals in high school. Keep it up, gentlemen!

JV Cards Make Good Showing at Tournament

The JV squad went 1-1 this weekend at the Carthage JV Tournament. Taking a 6-1 loss to Joplin on Friday night, the Cards bounced back to win 4-1 Saturday afternoon vs. Cassville. The 5 goals scored this weekend were by sophomores Carlos Reyes, Eduardo Rojas (2), and Jeremy Heuertz, and freshman Jimmy Campbell got the first goal of his high school career. Good Job Fellas.

Night Starts Slow--Dynamic Duo is Established

The Cards took the field Thursday night against Logan-Rogersville a little flat - and a little eager for goals. It is clear that we may have underestimated the game of the Wildcats. Play was about equal in the first half with Log-Rog scoring first in the 37th minute. Some halftime adjustments were made, including the entrance of Jaime Tomay in his first game since becoming fully eligible.

Tomay and PJ Armstrong hooked up on three of the four goals of the night. The first came off a free kick by Tomay, which PJ headed in to get the Cards on the board early in the half. Tomay would assist on PJ's second goal as well. Then, in the 76th minute, PJ returned the favor feeding a ball to Jaime that found the back of the net. The final goal came seconds later as Carlos Reyes picked up a deflection off the post and finished. Final score, 4-1 Webb City. Total shots on goal were 22 for Webb and 5 for Log-Rog.

The JV squad picked up their first win tonight as well, winning 2-1 off a pair of goals by Eduardo "Lalo" Rojas. They now prepare for the JV Tournament at Carthage this weekend.

Prayers go out to Cody Hawks, who was taken to the hospital by ambulance following the game. Get well Cody.

Cards Give Carthage a Great Game!

The Cardinals varsity squad came out Tuesday night against Carthage with something to prove. After being beaten last year 10-0 in about 50 minutes of play, we were considered heavy underdogs in this match. The Cards took the field with a level of desire not seen this season.

In the first half, this match was even. As far as possession goes, it could be argued that Webb had control of the half. The score at halftime did not reflect this as Carthage was up 1-0. During halftime, we saw a confidence in our players that we have not seen against this opponent in several years. We were in the game!

We took the field in the second half with the same fire that we had seen in the first. We had some brilliant attacks on goal that just couldn't finish. Our defense continue to hold for most of the half by forcing the ball outside and making Carthage cross the ball in. Thomas Foster also made some amazing saves! In the 69th minute, Matt Robinson made an impressive run through our back line and found the back of the net. Minutes later, he would score again off a very nice through ball from Joe Curti. The Last goal came in stoppage time off a PK by Joe Curti. Final Score 4-0 Carthage.

The Cardinals left the field with heads held high because we played 69 minutes of solid soccer with one of the best teams in the region. While a win would have been great, the fact that we fought to the very end was worth it. We gave up a couple of bad goals, but we made Carthage earn their win this year.

We continue our 4-3 season with confidence that if we play at this level all season, we will be a tough team to beat. We focus now on Logan-Rogersville for Thursday night.

Carthage JV Tournament Schedule--Revised

I am replacing the previous post with the JV tourney schedule with this more current one. A new team was added to the tournament and so they had to shuffle the games around. We will play Friday night vs Joplin at 6:30 (sorry football fans). The bus will leave from the high school at 5:00. We will have practice for the Varsity players until 5 on Friday.

On Saturday, we play Cassville at 1:30. The bus will leave the school at noon.

The championship game will be at 3:30.

Webb Takes 4th at Christian County

The Webb City Cardinals took fourth place at the Christian County Soccer Tournament Saturday. This is a huge improvement from taking 8th last year. After a 3-2 win over Neosho Friday night, the Cards found themselves with good seeding for the rest of the tournament. PJ Armstrong scored two of the goals and Carlos Reyes got the game winner with about 4 minutes remaining in the game to finish Neosho.

Saturday brought some tough challenges as Webb City would face off against two of the best teams in the Central Ozarks Conference in Ozark and Nixa. In the Ozark game, we started strong and held off the Ozark attack for the first 25 minutes while making some strong passes and getting some shots off. Ozark was up at the half 1-0. During the second half, the fatigue of playing so many close matches this week began to show. We gave up a goal 5 minutes in off corner kick headed into the goal. Then, Ozark earned a penalty kick and pretty much sealed the deal. Thoughts went to saving legs for the upcoming game for third place. Ozark prevailed 5-0.

In the third place match, we faced off against powerhouse Nixa with almost identical results. Down 2-0 at the half, the Cards came out fighting with some success in the second half, but couldn’t get the ball to the net. The players played hard to the end, but took a 5-0 loss in that one as well.

We left the field with our heads held high that we had given a good and honest effort. The young players that were brought up made significant contributions and gained valuable playing experience against some of the toughest competition in the area. The Cards go to 4-2 as we prepare for Tuesday night’s match with Carthage.

Webb Knocks off Carl 2-1

In another nail-biter, the Cards took on our neighbors and district rivals, Carl Junction Thursday night. Despite multiple injuries, the Cards played their hearts out all game. As we expected, it was a very physical and emotional match. It always is when these two teams get together. the team that possessed the ball prevailed.

The game started off back and forth with some good attacks from both sides. Carlos Reyes opened up scoring for Webb with a nice shot to the far post that found net. CJ answered back with a shot from distance that snuck past keeper Thomas Foster. With the game tied, the Cards held their ground kept it together and were able to get a goal just before halftime as Jeremy Heuertz found a deflection off a Cody Hawks free kick and finished the job. The second half saw emotions rise as both teams were trying hard to attack with little success.

The Cardinals focused their second half on possessing the ball and preserving the lead, and managed to get some great attacks as a result of settling down and playing fundamental soccer. Defense held strong and with the help of seven saves by Foster, the Cards held on for the win. Great Job!

Nixa-Ozark Tournament Information

Parents,

I want to offer my apologies for not getting this information out via the blog. The players have been told all week in practice. Given the emails and phone calls I've been getting, it is clear that the information is not making it home in complete form. So here's the breakdown:

The bus leaves for Ozark at 2:45. The game will begin at 5:00 at Ozark High School versus Neosho. Depending on the outcome of that game our bus time Saturday morning has two possibilities. If we lose Friday night, the bus will leave at 6:30 Saturday morning for a 9:00 game. If we win, the bus will leave at 8:30 Saturday morning for a 10:45 game.

The directions to Ozark High School are as follows:

– I-44 toward Springfield and take the James River FWY exit (69). Take route 60 east and merge onto US-65 toward Branson. Take a left on the MO-J/MO-CC exit toward Fremont Hills. Follow MO-J to MO-NN and take a right. Go 2.5 miles to Bluff Dr. and take a right. The games will be played in the stadium.

I hope this answers most of the questions about the tournament. I would also add that the players that are suiting up were told at practice on Wednesday, but all players are welcome to come along on the bus to cheer us on.

Once again, apologies for the late notice---it won't happen again.

Nixa/Ozark Tournament UPDATE

To all varsity parents and JV parents whose player is going to the tournament: We have enough parents signed up for the food so thankyou all for stepping up and helping out. Send the food with your player saturday morning. We will have containers ready to place the food in.

Still in need: we need bottled water and or sports drinks for the team to drink while eating. They may have to eat on the bus inbetween games and it is much easier if their drinks are in bottles. Please comment to this blog of what you will send or email Tonya Sanders at thesanders@mchsi.com

What a Night!

The Cards pulled off a dramatic 3-2 victory in 2 overtimes to defeat the Willard Tigers. The night started off great. The Cards played great possession soccer to start the game before PJ Armstrong opened up scoring in the first half on an assist by Alex Christian. The rest of the half went back and forth leading to a 1-0 lead at halftime.

We came out strong in the second half and very quickly tallied another pretty goal by Jace Cooke assisted by Carlos Reyes. The legs began to get tired and minor injuries were causing some mental breakdowns allowing the Tigers to tie up the match before the end of regulation. As we began the first period of overtime, a storm was looming. About five minutes in, lightning began to appear in the distance... we continued the fight. Just before the second OT, the coaches, referees, and administrator deliberated and decided that conditions were unsafe leading to a half-hour delay. When the lightning detector indicated it was safe to play again, the Cards and Tigers took the field for the final showdown. The winning goal came off a free kick by Ryan Busick that PJ found floating around in the box when he decided to introduce the ball to the back of the net in a climactic end to one of the most exciting games we've seen.

It was a great team effort. Big props for the defense, which despite the loss of Sanders in OT went on to hold off the vicious Tiger attack. Great Job!

Futbol Shirts are In!

The Webb City Futbol shirts are in. If you placed an order with us at the parents meeting and your shirt(s) is paid for, you should receive it after Friday's practice. If you have not paid, please send $12 per shirt with your player to practice. If you missed out and still want to purchase one, we ordered some extra. Just send $12 with your player and specify the size and we will make sure you get one.

Labor Day Practice

The soccer team will hold a practice on Monday Sept. 9 at 8:00 AM. This practice is optional, however, it is strongly encouraged that the players that are in town on Monday attend. We will let out around 9:30 or 10:00.

Nixa/Ozark Tournament Needs

The soccer team will need a lunch provided for the tournament Saturday, September 12. Karrie Foster and Tonya Sanders will be providing the sandwiches. Here is a list of items that would be great to add to the lunch.

Fruit: ex. apple slices(if you put them in 7-UP they will not turn brown) or grapes or bananas
chips: either pre-bought individual bags or chips put into sandwich bags
granola bars or breakfast bars
snack cakes or cookies (individually wrapped or packaged)
bottled water
bottled gatorade (no pop please)

Last year the kids had to eat their lunch while on the bus from one field to the next which is why we are requesting everything be individually packaged to make it easier for them.

We need enough of each item for approx 25 people to feed the team, team managers, and coaches. Please post in the comments section under this blog what you will provide or email Tonya Sanders at thesanders@mchsi.com. Please respond by Tuesday.

We want our team to be able to have maximum energy during this tournament so it is up to us to provide these items so please help. Send items with your player Saturday.

Cards Off to a Great Start

The Cardinals soccer squad took the field for their first match Tuesday night vs College Heights Christian School. Despite some off the field hardships that affected numbers, the varsity squad rose to the challenge (with the help of a few JV players). The first half saw 3 goals scored. The first, a 40 yard bloop by PJ Armstrong, dropped in just over the keeper's head. He was assisted on that goal by Alex Christian. Eduardo "Lalo" Rojas accounted for the next two goals by playing tough inside the box and finishing the job.

The second half was opened with a beautiful header by Ryan Busick off a corner kick by PJ Armstrong. Later, Kyle Handley put in an unassisted goal to finish off with a 5-0 victory for the Cards. Our defense held strong and put up a clean sheet. Our young players stepped up and played their positions effectively.

Great Job guys! Next challenge - Willard. Keep the desire gentlemen!

Team Cookout August 29

The parents have decided to hold a team cookout on Saturday, August 29 at the Heuertz'. Parent volunteers and coaches will provide food. There will be a pool and a soccer field for the players and their families to enjoy. Young children are welcome. Cardinal Soccer Two-a-days Week in Review

The Cardinals soccer squad had an outstanding week of hard work this week. The players busted their tails and sweat bullets in their desire to improve both as individuals and as a team. We braved the heat of August in order that we might be forged into the team we want to be. We enter the season optimistic and ready for the challenges ahead.

Parent's Meeting

We will have a Parent's meeting for soccer parents on Friday, August 14th at 6:00 in the Cardinal Theater at the High School. The purpose of the meeting is for the coaches to introduce themselves and inform parents about the season. If there are any questions regarding the program, this would be the time to ask. We will also be asking for volunteers to help organize events throughout the season.

Pre-Practice Checklist

As we prepare to begin practice just over a week away, there are a few things each player needs to be sure they have taken care of before the 10th.

- Make sure that your physical and insurance are on file with the office. You may not practice without these.

- Make sure to bring cleats and running shoes to every practice. Shin-guards that have been approved by NOCSAE are also required. (If you are not familiar with this rule and need further explanation, let me know).

- Bring $9 to purchase the our team t-shirts.

- Drink plenty of water.

- Come mentally and physically prepared for hard work and fun!
